Detecting Cocaine Use Using Smartphone

The cardiovascular effects of cocaine use are acute. Objective cocaine use data in the natural field setting can be detected using heart rate detection based on reflectance-based photoplethysmography (PPG).
Additional potential areas for extending research with photoplethysmography (PPG) include expanding into the detection of both stimulants and opioids, by measuring peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2) to detect opioid use by reduced heart rate and blood oxygen saturation.
This capability can help in substance treatment plans, and unobtrusive drug detection and monitoring.
